Congratulations to the Finalists and many thanks to all Clubs and individual members who continued to support us by entering our various competitions and by coming along to support the Finals. All Finals were ably umpired by Charlie Murphy.
We are particularly grateful to John Morton, the S&DBA Secretary for working with Supreme in running Finals Day.
We are hopeful of introducing a Blesma Ladies Pairs in 2018 to complement the existing Blesma Mens Pairs and St Raphaels Mixed Pairs. In contrast to previous years we have decided against holding a Presentation Dinner later in the year. As you know, we are currently without a President and resources are tight; in recent years, with the exception of one or two clubs, it has been quite a struggle to sell the requisite number of tickets. We are prepared to review this for 2018.
Don't forget that we have an extensive Indoor Fixture list - all these are mixed matches, i.e. we need and welcome both men and women to make up our teams.
Fortunately the Past Times Finals at Wallington B.C. on Saturday 16 September was blessed with fine, mainly sunny weather. The fast playing surface seemed to suit the Southey Ladies and the Supreme men better than their opponents and while the matches were close at times, Southey and Supreme took early overall leads which they managed to retain throughout, the final scores being :
Ladies Final : Southey 45, Cheam 26 (rink scores 25-13 and 22-23)
Men's Final : Supreme 44, Chessington 20 (rink scores 23-9 and 21-11)
Annual trophies were presented to the winning teams and gift tokens to each finalist team. The annual winners trophies will be engraved and returned to Supreme and Southey to keep until next year's finals. Keepsake plaques will be engraved and given to each finalist team for their retention. The nett proceeds of the competition entry fees will be donated to a worthy charity actively serving the local Surrey community and which will be announced shortly. Photographs of the finalists will be posted shortly on the Past Times Pictures page of this S&DBA website.
Our grateful thanks are due to Keith Woods and his team at Wallington B.C. for providing an excellent playing surface and in particular to Wallington's Vice President and Ladies Competition Secretary, Margaret Woods, for acting as the event M.C. and for organising excellent post-match refreshments. Many thanks also to John Parsons who, as always, umpired immaculately.
Players are required for the S&DBA's coming Indoor season. Of particular urgency are players for Matches 1 to 8. Men and Women from all S&DBA affiliated clubs are eligible so please review the Fixture List and complete the appropriate Match Application Forms posted on the 'Indoor Fixtures' page of this website.
The S&DBA Officers have reluctantly decided that there will be no annual Presentation Dinner this year. The reasons are broadly three fold ... partly because we do not have a President, partly because we are stretched on resources, and partly because we are not convinced about the support from clubs. We will review this for 2018.
The trophies for the S&DBA competitions will be presented on our Finals Day on Saturday 23rd September at Supreme B.C. We will take back and arrange the engraving, and then deliver to the clubs / people concerned. A similar approach will be used for the Past Times competitions whose Finals Day is Saturday 16th September at 10am at Wallington B.C.
The fixture list for the 2017-18 Indoor Season is now published and can be viewed, downloaded and printed on the 'Indoor Fixtures' page along with the player match application forms.
At this meeting held on Monday 3rd April at Wallington B.C. the draws for the Yonwin Cup, Pastion Cup and Arthur Hughes Triples competitions were made. Downloadable and printable copies of the draw sheets are posted on the 'Competitions' page and club contact details are posted on the password-protected 'Admin' page which is accessible to the Delegates and Hon. Sec's of our affiliated clubs only.
A number of important subjects came up at the recent AGM the most significant for the future of our organisation being the failure to fill the positions of President and Vice President. While many of us do already actively support our sport there are many more who need encouragement to offer their time and knowledge in not just playing bowls but help in organising it too. Therefore, would all member clubs please canvas their members to take an interest in the need for them to actively participate in the running of the S&DBA by volunteering to become our Officers.
Our Secretary, John Morton, has summarised the main points arising at the AGM in the document below which can be viewed, downloaded and printed by clicking on its document title. Please note these are not the formal minutes which will be issued prior to the next AGM.

A successful 2016 Presentation Evening Dinner was held at Sutton B.C. on Saturday, 19th November attended by members from affiliated clubs. Our principal guests this year were the SCBA President, Graham Dawber and his wife. Many thanks to Graham who presented trophies for the Past Times competitions as well as the six S&DBA competitions. As usual Sutton BC proved an ideal venue with excellent food and a well-stocked bar.
Method of Running the S&DBA Competitions
The method of running the competitions changed in 2013 - please read the information posted on the 'Competitions' page. Contrary to some rumours it is not necessary for individual competitors to possess a computer or have access to the internet. All information related to the competitions is being e-mailed to the Hon Sec's and the S&DBA Delegates of the affiliated clubs for them to distribute / make available to their own clubs' competitors.
